Sam Irwin: Lead Vocals

Sam Irwin is the former lead singer of “The Sixpentz”, a very successful band from Houston, Texas. They were one of the hottest bands of that time and much sought after by the major labels. Uni Records eventually signed them and immediately changed their name to “The Fun and Games”. UNI was a small label that had some of the cream of the crop when it came to talented groups. Along with The Fun and Games, UNI had in it’s stable, The Strawberry Alarm, Fever Tree, Hugh Masekela, Neil Diamond, and Elton John.

The label enjoyed an incredible run and fun with this immense talent. The group had two modest hits back in the late 60’s and an album that had relatively good sales. That same album, Elephant Candy by The Fun and Games, has now been re-released in the U.K., and is having a great reception by all ages. The editorial review remarks, “First time on CD and fully remastered. These 60’s Texas garage avant-gardists are produced by Gary Zekley of Phil Spector, Jan and Dean fame! For years this rare pop album has been much sought after by collectors.”
